Boccadasse is a tiny, picturesque fishing village tucked into a cove at the eastern end of Genoa's Corso Italia seafront promenade. Its cluster of pastel-coloured houses, a small pebbly beach, and traditional gelaterias make it feel like stepping into a postcard of the old Ligurian Riviera.
Originally a separate fishing village outside Genoa's walls, Boccadasse was absorbed into the city as it expanded eastward in the 19th century. Despite surrounding development, it retained its village character, narrow lanes, and fishing-boat harbour. Its name may derive from 'bocca d'aze' (donkey's mouth), describing the shape of the cove.
