Museum of Torture

Overview

The Museum of Torture (Muzej mučenja) in Gornji Grad displays over 70 medieval torture instruments with detailed explanations of their use throughout European history. Dark but educational, it's one of the more unconventional museums in Zagreb's Upper Town.

History

The museum opened in the 2010s in a medieval building in Gornji Grad. Its collection draws on European judicial and penal history, with a particular focus on witch trials that occurred in the Croatian lands during the 17th and 18th centuries.
