Jarun Lake is Zagreb's outdoor recreation hub, a large artificial lake complex southwest of the city center offering beaches, cycling paths, rowing courses, and waterside nightlife. Created for the 1987 Summer Universiade, it's where Zagrebians go to relax and exercise.
The lake was created by excavating gravel deposits from the Sava River floodplain for the 1987 Summer Universiade. Originally a competition rowing venue, it evolved into Zagreb's most popular outdoor recreation area and is now managed as a recreational park.
