Red Beach (Kokkini Paralia) is one of Santorini's most visually striking beaches, located just south of the Akrotiri archaeological site. Its dramatic backdrop of towering red and black volcanic cliffs contrasts vividly with the dark pebbled shore and turquoise waters, creating a landscape unlike any other in the Aegean.
The distinctive red coloring of the cliffs comes from oxidized iron-rich volcanic deposits laid down during Santorini's many eruptions over the past 650,000 years. The beach gained international fame through tourism photography in the 1980s and has since become one of the most visited natural sites on the island.
