The Museum of Prehistoric Thera in Fira houses the most important archaeological finds from the Akrotiri excavation, including stunning Minoan frescoes, gold jewelry, and everyday objects from the Bronze Age settlement, providing essential context for understanding the ancient civilization that thrived on Santorini.
The museum opened in 2000 in a purpose-built facility replacing the older collection that was housed in the Archaeological Museum. Its collection spans from the Late Neolithic period (4th millennium BCE) through the Late Cycladic era, with the centerpiece being artifacts from Akrotiri rescued during decades of excavation since 1967.
