Kamari is Santorini's longest organized beach, stretching for nearly 5 kilometers along the island's eastern coast. Its distinctive black volcanic sand, backed by the imposing Mesa Vouno mountain, makes it a popular destination for swimming, sunbathing, and waterfront dining.
Kamari takes its name from a small arch (kamara) that was part of a Roman-era sanctuary of Poseidon. The area was primarily agricultural until tourism development began in the 1970s, transforming it into one of the island's main resort areas while the beach itself has been continuously awarded the Blue Flag for water quality.
