The Archaeological Museum of Thera is one of Greece's oldest provincial museums, displaying artifacts from Ancient Thera and other sites across the island spanning from the Archaic through the Roman periods. Its collection complements the nearby Museum of Prehistoric Thera by covering the later historical phases of Santorini.
Founded in 1902 following Friedrich Hiller von Gaertringen's excavations of Ancient Thera, the museum was initially housed in the Catholic Bishop's residence. It suffered severe damage in the 1956 earthquake and was rebuilt in its current modernist building. The collection spans from the 7th century BCE to the 4th century CE.
