The Akrotiri Lighthouse (Faros) stands at the southernmost tip of Santorini, offering sweeping views of the caldera, the open sea, and the island's rugged volcanic coastline. Built in 1892, it is one of the oldest lighthouses in Greece and a beloved sunset-viewing spot away from the crowds of Oia.
The lighthouse was constructed in 1892 by a French company contracted to upgrade Greek maritime infrastructure. It was one of the first electrified lighthouses in the Aegean. The tower was damaged in the 1956 earthquake and later automated, with its original Fresnel lens now replaced by a modern beacon. It remains an active navigational aid.
