Prasonisi is a dramatic sand isthmus at the extreme southern tip of Rhodes, connecting the main island to a small rocky islet. The Aegean Sea crashes on one side while the Mediterranean laps calmly on the other — a world-class windsurfing and kitesurfing spot.
Prasonisi ("Green Island") is seasonally connected to Rhodes — in winter, high seas submerge the sandbar, turning it into a true island. The area was off-limits during military rule and only opened to tourists in the 1990s, which kept it undeveloped.
