Hippocrates Square (Plateia Ippokratous) is the liveliest gathering spot in the Old Town — a small, atmospheric square at the intersection of major pedestrian arteries, centred on a medieval Ottoman fountain and surrounded by cafés and restaurants.
The square was a commercial hub during both the Knights' period and Ottoman era. The Castellania building served as the Knights' commercial court and customs house. The fountain was added during Ottoman rule. The square was named after the ancient Greek physician, though he practiced on neighbouring Kos.
