Overview
The Old Port is the original harbour of Mykonos Town — a picturesque crescent dotted with colourful wooden fishing boats (caïques), seafood tavernas, and the departure piers for the short ferry to Delos.
Highlights
- Caïques and Fishing Boats: Brightly painted traditional boats bob in the shallow harbour, providing classic Cycladic photo opportunities.
- Delos Departure: All boats to the UNESCO-listed island of Delos leave from the old port's quay.
- Waterfront Tavernas: Simple fish restaurants line the harbour wall.
History
The Old Port has served as Mykonos's main harbour since antiquity. Before the modern new port at Tourlos was built to handle larger ferries and cruise tenders, all inter-island traffic passed through here. It remains the heart of the island's fishing fleet.
Visitor Tips
- Delos Boats: First boats to Delos leave around 9 AM; buy tickets the evening before in peak season.
- Morning Walk: The harbour is most atmospheric in the early morning when fishermen unload their catch.
- Duration: 20–30 minutes.
