Daedalou Street is a lively pedestrian shopping street connecting Lion Square to Eleftherias Square, running through the heart of the commercial old town. Named after the mythical architect Daedalus, it is lined with clothing stores, souvenir shops, jewelers, and ice cream parlors.
Daedalou Street has been a commercial thoroughfare since the Venetian period, when it connected the administrative center (near Eleftherias/Plateia Daskalogiannis) with the market district around Lion Square. The street was pedestrianized in the late 20th century as part of Heraklion's old-town renewal program.
