The Church of Saint Titus (Agios Titos) is a landmark church in central Heraklion, dedicated to the patron saint of Crete. Originally built in the 10th century, it has been rebuilt multiple times in Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman styles and stands today as a symbol of the city's layered religious history.
The original church was built in 961 CE during the Byzantine reconquest of Crete. The Venetians rebuilt it as a cathedral in the 16th century. After earthquake damage in 1856, the Ottomans rebuilt it as a mosque (the Vizier Mosque). In 1923, after the population exchange, it was reconverted to a Greek Orthodox church.
