Pillnitz Palace (Schloss Pillnitz) was the summer residence of the Saxon royal family, set on the banks of the Elbe 10 km southeast of central Dresden. The palace complex blends Baroque and chinoiserie styles across three buildings surrounding Baroque gardens.
Augustus the Strong acquired the estate in 1706 and commissioned architect Matthäus Pöppelmann to build the Wasserpalais (1720–24) and Bergpalais in chinoiserie style. A fire in 1818 destroyed the old Renaissance palace, replaced by the Neoclassical New Palace by 1826.
