Panometer Dresden

Overview

The Panometer is a 360° panoramic exhibition by artist Yadegar Asisi, housed inside a decommissioned gasometer (gas tank) from 1880. Visitors climb a central platform to be immersed in monumental panoramic paintings, typically depicting Dresden in 1695 (Baroque zenith) or 1945 (post-bombing devastation).

• Scale: The panorama painting measures 27 meters high and 105 meters in circumference — larger than an IMAX screen.
• Light and Sound: A 15-minute day-night cycle with ambient sound enhances the immersive effect.

History

Artist Yadegar Asisi premiered the Dresden panorama concept in 2006. The former Reick gasometer, built in 1880, provides the cylindrical space. The exhibition alternates between historical scenes every few years.
