Overview
The Sofia History Museum tells the story of the city from ancient Serdica to modern Sofia, housed in one of the city's most beautiful buildings—the former Central Mineral Baths, a Viennese Secessionist masterpiece from 1913.
Highlights
- The Building: The former bathhouse itself is the main attraction, with ornate ceramic tiles, domes, and decorative facades.
- Roman Serdica: Archaeological finds from the Roman period, including mosaics and everyday objects.
- Modern Sofia: Photographs and artifacts tracing the city's transformation through Ottoman, Liberation, and Communist periods.
History
The mineral baths operated from 1913 to 1986, using Sofia's natural hot springs. After closure, the building was restored and reopened as the Sofia History Museum in 2015.
