The Church of St. Nicholas the Miracle-Maker, commonly known as the Russian Church, is a small but dazzling Russian Orthodox church in central Sofia. With its five gilded onion domes and colourful tile facade, it is one of the most photographed buildings in the city.
Built between 1907 and 1914 on the site of a destroyed Ottoman mosque, the church was designed by Mikhail Preobrazhenski for the Russian diplomatic community in Sofia. It is dedicated to Saint Nicholas in memory of the Russian soldiers who fell during the liberation of Bulgaria.
