Oborishte is one of Sofia's most elegant and leafy residential districts, centred around the embassies, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and Sofia University. Tree-lined streets and early 20th-century architecture give the neighbourhood a refined, almost Viennese atmosphere.
Oborishte developed as Sofia's elite residential quarter in the late 19th century after Bulgaria's liberation. It was named after the 1876 Oborishte Assembly, a key meeting in the lead-up to Bulgaria's liberation movement.
