The House of Alijn (Huis van Alijn) is a charming folklore museum housed in a 14th-century almshouse founded after a double murder. It documents everyday Belgian life through household objects, toys, and video interviews — a surprisingly moving experience.
The almshouse was founded in 1363 to atone for the murder of two members of the Alijn family by the rival Ryckaerts. It operated as a children's hospital and home for the elderly before becoming a museum in 1962.
