Eilandje (Little Island) is Antwerp's revitalized harbour district north of the old city. Once a gritty docklands area, it has been transformed into a trendy quarter with waterfront restaurants, converted warehouses, the MAS museum, and the Red Star Line Museum.
The Eilandje docks were Antwerp's commercial heart from the 16th to 20th centuries. As port activities moved north, the area declined. A master plan launched in 2002 triggered the cultural and residential revival.
