The Untersberg Cable Car climbs from the valley station at St. Leonhard (450 m) to the summit plateau at 1,776 m in about eight minutes. At the top, a network of hiking trails leads to the true summit (1,853 m) and rewards with 360° panoramas from the Alps to the Bavarian plain.
The Untersberg has long featured in local mythology — Emperor Charlemagne is said to sleep inside the mountain. The cable car was built in 1961 and modernized in 2018 with new cabin capacity.
