Mozart's Residence (Mozart-Wohnhaus) on Makartplatz is where the Mozart family lived from 1773 to 1787. Larger than the Getreidegasse birthplace, this is where the teenage Mozart composed many of his early masterworks. The museum focuses on his mature Salzburg years.
Leopold Mozart moved his family here in 1773 for more space. Wolfgang composed prolifically here until his permanent departure for Vienna in 1781. The house was severely damaged in a WWII bombing in 1944 and controversially demolished. It was rebuilt in 1994–96 as a modern museum.
