The Nordkette cable car system connects Innsbruck's city centre directly to the high-alpine environment in just 20 minutes. The route climbs via three stages — the Zaha Hadid-designed Hungerburgbahn funicular, then the Seegrubenbahn and Hafelekarbahn cable cars — to reach the 2,256 m Hafelekar summit with breathtaking 360° Alpine views.
The original Nordkettenbahn cable car opened in 1928. The Hungerburgbahn funicular was completely rebuilt in 2004–07 with Zaha Hadid's award-winning stations replacing the 1906 originals.
