Alpenzoo Innsbruck is Europe's highest-altitude zoo at 750 m, situated on the Hungerburgbahn slope above the city. The zoo is dedicated exclusively to Alpine fauna, housing over 2,000 animals of 150 species native to the Alps.
Founded in 1962 by zoologist Hans Psenner, the zoo was designed to preserve and display Alpine wildlife. Its elevated location provides natural terrain for mountain-adapted species.
