Overview
The Vegalnica is Plečnik's columned riverside arcade, part of his Central Market complex. It hosts market stalls on the ground floor and the permanent exhibition "Plečnik's Ljubljana" inside, documenting his transformative urban vision.
Highlights
- Plečnik's Ljubljana Exhibition: Free display of models, drawings, and photos showing Plečnik's unrealized and completed projects.
- Riverside Colonnade: Elegant stone columns framing views of the Ljubljanica, the castle, and Butchers' Bridge.
- Market Stalls: Fresh fish, cheese, and specialty food vendors operate under the arcade.
History
The arcade was designed by Plečnik in 1939 as part of his plan to unite the market with the river. It houses the "Plečnik's Ljubljana" exhibition, which opened after his works received UNESCO status in 2021.
