Overview
The Ljubljana Funicular is a modern glass-walled cable railway connecting Krekov trg in the old town to Ljubljana Castle in just one minute. It is the quickest and most scenic way to reach the castle hilltop.
Highlights
- Glass Cabin: Transparent walls provide panoramic views during the steep 70-meter ascent.
- Speed: The entire ride takes approximately 60 seconds.
- Departure Point: The lower station is at Krekov trg, next to the Central Market.
History
The funicular opened in 2006 as part of the castle's renovation and tourism development. It replaced the need for the 10-minute uphill walk (which remains an alternative route through the forest).
Visitor Tips
- Tip 1: The return ticket is included in the castle admission combo — buy the combined ticket for the best value.
- Tip 2: Walk up through the forest path and ride the funicular down, or vice versa, for variety.
- Duration: 5–10 minutes (including wait time).
