Overview
Krakovo is a quiet, village-like neighborhood just south of the old town, considered Ljubljana's oldest suburb. It is known for its community vegetable gardens, narrow streets, and Plečnik's Church of St. Michael.
Highlights
- Krakovo Gardens: Centuries-old community plots where local residents grow vegetables — a rare urban agriculture tradition.
- Church of St. Michael: A Plečnik-designed church (1938) with a distinctive colonnade and barrel-vaulted interior.
- River Path: A peaceful walk along the Gradaščica stream connects to the Ljubljanica embankment.
History
Krakovo was originally a fishing settlement outside the medieval walls. Its residents supplied the city with vegetables and fish, a tradition partly preserved in the community gardens today.
