Overview
Congress Square (Kongresni trg) is a grand neoclassical public square flanked by the University of Ljubljana, the Slovenian Philharmonic, and the Ursuline Church. Below it lies Star Park (Zvezda), a green space with plane trees dating from the 19th century.

History
The square was laid out in 1821 as the venue for the Congress of the Holy Alliance, hosted by Emperor Francis I of Austria. It has been a political and cultural center ever since.
