Overview
The City Museum of Ljubljana (Mestni muzej Ljubljana) tells the 5,000-year story of the city, from prehistoric pile dwellings on the Ljubljana Marshes to the modern Slovenian capital. It occupies the restored Auersperg Palace on Gosposka ulica.

History
The museum was established in 1935 and moved to the restored 17th-century Auersperg Palace in the 2000s. The building itself is a palimpsest of architectural layers from Roman foundations to Baroque halls.
