Overview
Butchers' Bridge (Mesarski most) is a modern glass-floored pedestrian bridge connecting the Central Market to the Petkovšek embankment. Opened in 2010, it is adorned with Jakov Brdar's bronze sculptures and has become Ljubljana's "love lock" bridge.
Highlights
- Bronze Sculptures: Surreal figures by sculptor Jakov Brdar, including a Prometheus and Satyr group.
- Glass Floor Panels: Translucent floor sections revealing the Ljubljanica flowing beneath.
- Love Locks: Thousands of padlocks attached by couples, turning the railings into a living installation.
History
Plečnik originally planned a covered bridge with market stalls at this location, but it was never built. The modern bridge by Jurij Sadar and Boštjan Vuga was completed in 2010, with Brdar's sculptures installed simultaneously.
