History
The Grande Île has been the heart of Strasbourg since the Roman camp of Argentoratum. Its current form — a densely built island surrounded by waterways — was established by the 13th century. The UNESCO inscription in 1988 recognized the island's exceptional concentration of medieval and early modern architecture.
