Overview
MAMO (Marseille Modulor) is a contemporary art gallery on the rooftop of Le Corbusier's Cité Radieuse, combining world-class art exhibitions with the building's iconic Brutalist architecture and sweeping Mediterranean views.
Highlights
- The Setting: Art installations occupy Le Corbusier's original rooftop gymnasium, running track, and paddling pool — a surreal juxtaposition.
- Artist Commissions: Major artists including Daniel Buren, Xavier Veilhan, and Felice Varini have created site-specific works for the space.
- The View: Panoramic views spanning from Notre-Dame de la Garde to the distant Calanques.
History
Founded in 2013 by designer Ora-Ïto as part of the European Capital of Culture program, MAMO commissions one major artist per season to create new work for the Cité Radieuse rooftop. The project is supported by Lazarides gallery.
