The Abbaye Saint-Victor is one of the oldest Christian sites in France, a fortified monastery perched above the Vieux-Port's southern shore. Its massive crypt contains 5th-century sarcophagi, early Christian relics, and the atmospheric remains of a Roman-era quarry and necropolis.
Founded around 415 AD near the tomb of the 3rd-century martyr Saint Victor, the abbey became one of the most powerful monasteries in medieval Provence. The current fortified church dates from the 11th–14th centuries. The crypt preserves some of the earliest Christian artifacts in Gaul.
