Overview
The Passerelle du Palais de Justice is a graceful pedestrian footbridge spanning the Saône between the Presqu'île and Vieux Lyon. Its position directly opposite the monumental neoclassical Palais de Justice makes it one of Lyon's most photogenic crossing points.
Highlights
- Framed Views: The bridge offers a perfectly composed view of the 24-column facade of the Palais de Justice (the '24 Columns') and Fourvière hill behind it.
- Sunset Point: The west-facing orientation makes it an excellent spot for sunset photography.
- Night Lights: The bridge and surrounding quays are beautifully illuminated as part of Lyon's Plan Lumière.
History
The current steel and concrete footbridge was built in 1982, replacing an earlier 19th-century structure. It connects the Quai des Célestins on the Presqu'île side to the Place du Change in Vieux Lyon, providing a direct pedestrian link between the two historic cores.
Visitor Tips
- Photography: Sunrise and sunset provide the best light for capturing the Palais de Justice facade.
