Jardin des Curiosités

Overview

The Jardin des Curiosités is a tiny, secret garden perched on the western slope of Fourvière hill, offering one of the most intimate and unexpected panoramic views of Lyon. Less visited than the basilica esplanade, it provides a quieter, more romantic vantage point.

History

The garden was created on the former site of a military battery that overlooked the Saône. It was redesigned as a public garden in 2003 with minimalist landscaping and whimsical furniture by the City of Lyon. The 'curiosities' in the name refer to the fantastical oversized chairs and optical installations.

Visitor Tips

• Access: Walk south from the basilica along Montée Nicolas de Lange, or approach from Place de Fourvière — it's easy to miss the entrance.
• Sunset: One of the best sunset spots in the city, far less crowded than the main Fourvière viewpoint.
• Duration: 15–20 minutes.
