The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux occupies two wings of the elegant Hôtel de Ville (City Hall) gardens. Its collection spans from the Renaissance to the 20th century, with particular strength in Dutch Golden Age, Italian Baroque, and 19th-century French painting.
Founded in 1801 under Napoleon's decree creating regional art museums, the collection was significantly enriched by revolutionary confiscations from churches and aristocratic collections. The museum was renovated and rehung in 2019.
