Overview

Darwin Écosystème is a sprawling alternative cultural hub on Bordeaux's right bank, occupying a converted military barracks. It mixes street art, urban farming, coworking spaces, a skatepark, organic restaurants, and cultural events in a vibrant, eco-conscious community.

History

The Niel barracks complex was decommissioned in 2006 and progressively occupied by the Darwin association from 2009. Rather than demolishing for development, the city allowed the organic evolution of a cultural and ecological community — an experiment in alternative urbanism.
