The Römerberg is Frankfurt's historic central square — a picturesque ensemble of reconstructed half-timbered houses facing the medieval Römer city hall. It is the symbolic heart of the city, a striking contrast to the skyscraper skyline visible just behind.
The Römerberg has been Frankfurt's main squares since the Middle Ages, hosting trade fairs, coronation celebrations, and public gatherings. Almost entirely destroyed in the 1944 air raids, the square was painstakingly reconstructed in the 1980s using historic plans and photographs.
