Cologne's Rathaus (City Hall) is Germany's oldest, with records dating to 1135. It combines a 61-meter Gothic tower, a Renaissance loggia known as the Laube, and a modern postwar wing, reflecting eight centuries of civic architecture.
The city council met here as early as 1135, making it the oldest documented city hall in Germany. The Gothic tower was added in the early 15th century; the Renaissance loggia followed in 1573. Heavily damaged in WWII, faithfully reconstructed by 1972.
