Newlands Forest is a magical stretch of ancient indigenous forest on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. Giant yellowwood and camphor trees create a cool, shaded canopy, making it one of Cape Town's most popular spots for trail running, dog walking, and forest bathing.
The forest has existed for millennia and was one of few indigenous forests to survive colonial timber felling, thanks to early protection orders. The Newlands spring has supplied fresh water to Cape Town since Jan van Riebeeck's arrival in 1652.
