Muizenberg Beach is famous for its row of brightly painted Victorian bathing boxes and its consistently gentle waves, making it Cape Town's premier surf spot for beginners. Located on the warmer False Bay coast, the water is significantly warmer than the Atlantic side.
Muizenberg was named after Sergeant Wynand Willem Muys, posted at the military outpost here in 1743. The Battle of Muizenberg in 1795 saw the British wrest control from the Dutch. By the Edwardian era, it was the Cape's most fashionable seaside resort.
