Lion's Head is a distinctive peak between Table Mountain and Signal Hill, named for its lion-like profile when viewed from the north. The summit hike rewards with unobstructed 360-degree views of Cape Town, the Atlantic coastline, and the mountain amphitheatre.
The peak was originally called Leeuwen Kop ('Lion's Head') by the Dutch, paired with Signal Hill as the 'Lion's Rump'. The Khoekhoen people knew it as part of Camissa, the place of sweet waters. It has been a hiking destination since the Victorian era.
