Kalk Bay is a charming bohemian fishing village on the False Bay coast, known for its eclectic antique shops, independent galleries, artisan cafés, and a working harbour where fishermen still sell their catch from the boats.
The name Kalk Bay derives from the Dutch word 'kalk' (lime) — early settlers burned seashells here to produce lime for building. The fishing village was established by Filipino fishermen brought to the Cape as slaves, and their descendants still fish these waters.
