Chapman's Peak Drive is one of the most spectacular marine drives in the world. The 9-kilometre toll road between Hout Bay and Noordhoek hugs the near-vertical face of Chapman's Peak, with 114 curves carved into the cliff face 593 metres above the Atlantic.
Completed in 1922 after seven years of construction using convict labour, the road was an extraordinary feat of engineering. It has been closed and reopened several times due to rockfalls, with major netting and stabilisation work completed in 2003.
