Overview
The Las Vegas Strip is a 4.2-mile stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard South, lined with mega-resorts, casinos, theaters, and restaurants. It is the economic and cultural heart of the city, attracting over 42 million visitors annually.
Highlights
- Resort Architecture: Each mega-resort has a distinct theme — from the Venetian's Italian canals to the Luxor's Egyptian pyramid to the Wynn's curved bronze glass.
- Free Attractions: The Bellagio Fountains, Mirage Volcano, and numerous lobby art installations are all free to visit.
- Night Walk: After dark, the Strip transforms into a 4-mile corridor of light, sound, and energy.
History
The Strip emerged in 1941 when the El Rancho Vegas resort opened on what was then an empty highway. The modern megaresort era began with The Mirage in 1989, followed by waves of billion-dollar developments.
Visitor Tips
- Walking Distance: The Strip is deceptively long. Use the free tram systems (Bellagio–Aria–Vdara, Excalibur–Luxor–Mandalay Bay) to cover distance.
- Duration: 3–5 hours for a full walk.
