Overview
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a 195,819-acre desert preserve 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. Its centerpiece is a 13-mile scenic loop drive through towering red and cream Aztec sandstone formations.

History
The area was designated a National Conservation Area in 1990. The Keystone Thrust fault, visible in the canyon walls, formed 65 million years ago when ancient gray limestone was pushed over younger red sandstone.
Visitor Tips
- Early Start: The scenic drive opens at 6 AM. Arrive early to avoid crowds and heat, especially in summer.
- Bring Water: There are no water sources on the trails. Carry at least 1 liter per person per hour.
- Duration: 2–4 hours.
