Playa Makaha, nestled below the Miraflores cliffs, is Lima's most accessible surf break and a gathering point for the city's active surfing community. Consistent waves and nearby board rental shops make it welcoming for beginners while still offering rides that appeal to intermediate surfers.
Surfing in Lima dates to the 1930s, making it one of the oldest surfing traditions in South America. Peru produced world champion Sofía Mulanovich (2004) and hosts international competitions. Makaha has been a core surf spot since the 1960s.
