Overview
The Malecón de Miraflores is a spectacular 10-kilometer clifftop promenade running along the Pacific coast, offering uninterrupted ocean views, paraglider sightings, and access to a string of parks, gardens, and sculptures. It is Lima's premier outdoor walking and cycling route.
Highlights
- Paraglider Launch Point: Watch tandem paragliders launch from the cliffs at the Raimondi park section — or join them.
- Sunset Views: The west-facing orientation delivers some of the most dramatic sunsets in South America.
- Connected Parks: The malecón links Parque del Amor, Parque Salazar, and the Maria Reiche park in a continuous green corridor.
History
The clifftop path developed organically as Miraflores grew during the 20th century. It was formalized and improved in phases, with major upgrades in the 2000s adding cycling lanes, gardens, and public art installations along the full route.
Visitor Tips
- Bike Rental: Rent a bicycle and ride the full length — bike stations are available at multiple points.
- Late Afternoon: The best conditions for the coastal walk are 4–6 PM, when the sea breeze cools the air and the light turns golden.
- Duration: 1–2 hours (depending on distance covered).
