The Sky Tower is Auckland's most recognisable landmark, standing 328 metres tall in the heart of the CBD. Completed in 1997, it is the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere and offers 360-degree views extending up to 82 kilometres on a clear day.
Designed by Craig Craig Moller architects and engineered by Beca Group, the Sky Tower took two years and nine months to build. Its concrete shaft can withstand winds of over 200 km/h and earthquakes up to magnitude 8.0. The project was developed as part of the wider SKYCITY entertainment complex.
