Overview
Muriwai Gannet Colony is one of the few mainland Australasian gannet nesting sites, set on dramatic cliff-top platforms on Auckland's wild west coast. Between August and March, thousands of gannets nest and raise chicks within arm's reach of viewing platforms.

History
The gannet colony at Muriwai was first recorded in the late 19th century and has grown steadily since. Conservation efforts by the Department of Conservation and local volunteers have helped protect the nesting site.
